Communications using Meshtastic is completely encrypted end-to-end using public-key cryptography. So nobody can read your messages by snooping the radio waves. Unlike the internet or cell phones, there is no central backbone that all the communications runs along allowing a central remote source to snoop the communications. Each message is transferred locally only, from one user to the next.
